Glenn Kuper brings a wealth of practical experience in persuasion and argument, based on a firm theoretical foundation in communication studies. Kuper has worked with Tsongas for the last three years, joining the firm full time in 2011.

Kuper spent 13 years studying and teaching communication and argument theory at the University of Washington and the University of Puget Sound. He taught courses in presentational communication, argumentation and debate, and political communication. Kuper also coached nationally competitive speech and debate programs at both the high school and college level.

Kuper’s academic research focused on how individuals argue in everyday, practical situations and in understanding the types of arguments most likely to result in successful persuasion. In particular, his emphasis was on understanding the use of values and principles in public argument.

Most recently, Kuper served as communications director at the Washington State Office of Financial Management. Kuper was responsible for communicating with the public and the news media about the state’s budget. He directed the development of messages and publications that framed the decisions made by the Governor to address the most challenging economic conditions in recent history. Kuper previously worked as executive speechwriter for Gov. Gregoire and Gov. Locke.

Kuper has an M.A. and Ph.D. in speech communication from the University of Washington and a B.A. in communication and politics and government from the University of Puget Sound. Kuper is a member of the American Society of Trial Consultants.
